Embryo Freezing with ICSI Before Traveling Abroad – Successfully Conceived on the First Transfer After Returning a Year Later

Started Fertility Treatment with ICSI, Stored Embryo for a Year Due to Overseas Travel – Successfully Conceived on the First Transfer!

This patient became interested in fertility treatments at the age of 35, convinced that conceiving naturally would be difficult. After trying unsuccessfully for two years, they began researching treatment options. However, living abroad at the time made traveling back to Thailand inconvenient. Fortunately, they had the opportunity to attend an online seminar hosted by Dr. Ton at Beyond IVF, which was organized during the COVID-19 pandemic for those seeking information and preparing for fertility treatment.

After listening to the seminar and reading success stories from Beyond IVF, the patient felt more confident in the clinic’s expertise. A year later, they returned to Thailand for a short visit and immediately scheduled a personal consultation with Dr. Ton. By a stroke of luck, they were on day 2 of their menstrual cycle—the optimal time for hormone testing to assess fertility treatment options.

Based on the test results, Dr. Ton recommended ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) as the most effective method to achieve pregnancy quickly. The patient underwent 10 days of ovarian stimulation and responded well, with a healthy antral follicle count. An ultrasound confirmed a promising number of follicles (typically 6-10 per ovary), giving the patient renewed hope.

Following the egg retrieval, 13 eggs were collected. After fertilization, only 4 embryos reached the blastocyst stage (Day 5 embryos). The patient was eager to proceed with an embryo transfer immediately due to their limited time in Thailand. However, Dr. Ton strongly advised NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) chromosomal screening to ensure a higher success rate. The results revealed that only 1 embryo was chromosomally normal, reinforcing the importance of preimplantation genetic screening.

Despite having just one viable embryo, it was a top-quality "golden embryo" with a high chance of implantation. Dr. Ton reassured the patient that this embryo had excellent potential. Since the patient was unable to stay in Thailand for the transfer, they opted to freeze the embryo and follow a personalized preparation plan remotely.

A year later, the patient returned to Thailand for the transfer. Before proceeding, Dr. Ton conducted another thorough health assessment to optimize the chances of success. The patient had diligently followed the recommended pre-transfer regimen, and all test results indicated a healthy uterine environment.

On the embryo transfer day, the patient was nervous, fearing the single embryo might not implant. However, Dr. Ton reassured them, explaining that an Embryo Glue technique had been applied to enhance adhesion to the uterine lining. The transfer was smooth, and the patient felt no discomfort.

To closely monitor implantation, Dr. Ton scheduled follow-up blood tests every three days to track hormone levels. Eighteen days post-transfer, an hCG test confirmed pregnancy! To ensure accuracy, another ultrasound was performed three days later, revealing a gestational sac – confirming the pregnancy.

Treatment Details:
ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) – Specialized technique to inject sperm directly into the egg, increasing fertilization success.
NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) – Screening for chromosomal abnormalities to enhance implantation rates and reduce miscarriage risk.

Patient’s Experience with Beyond IVF:
“This was my first fertility treatment, and I’m so happy I chose Dr. Ton at Beyond IVF. The personalized care and attention to detail were exceptional. Even while abroad, the clinic regularly checked in on me. The staff were incredibly kind, and the facility was top-notch. For my next baby, I will definitely return to Beyond IVF!”

Body Mass Index calculator

Being overweight or underweight can reduce fertility, so it is important to keep your body weight within the normal healthy range.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is an indication of your body weight and can be calculated by dividing weight by height. You should aim for a BMI of between 20 and 25, as this will optimise your chances of conception.

Woman’s BMI below 19

Even in these modern times, nature knows best. If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

Being underweight

If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

BMI’s greater than 30

This can reduce fertility by 50%. Pregnancy for women with a 30+ BMI is often associated with problems such as maternal diabetes, high blood pressure, big babies and increased risk of caesarean section.
