Young but unable to conceive naturally due to hormonal imbalance—finally achieved pregnancy through ICSI with Dr. Ton Poonsak at Beyond IVF

This patient initially visited Beyond IVF for a consultation and to gather information about ICSI treatment two years ago. They wanted to ensure their baby would be born healthy without chromosomal abnormalities through NGS screening. However, at that time, the female partner was not yet classified as infertile, and conceiving naturally was still within a safe range. So, they decided to try naturally first.

After two years of unsuccessful attempts, they returned to Beyond IVF to have Dr. Ton assess the cause of their infertility. Medical examinations revealed that the female partner had hormonal imbalances, making natural conception difficult. Even if pregnancy occurred, there was a high risk of miscarriage. The best way to maximize the chances of pregnancy was through ICSI, combined with hormone regulation (Beyond IVF's special technique) during treatment to restore balance and prepare the body for embryo transfer.

During the ICSI process, while stimulating the ovaries, they retrieved nine eggs. After growing to the blastocyst stage (day 5), four embryos remained. Dr. Ton recommended chromosomal screening to select the best embryo, which would increase the chances of pregnancy and reduce miscarriage risk. As expected, only one embryo met the highest quality standard—dubbed the "golden embryo."

At Beyond IVF, even if only one embryo remains, pregnancy success is still possible with proper preparation and hormonal balance. Dr. Ton applied a meticulous and personalized treatment approach, ensuring the patient’s body was fully prepared, leading to a successful pregnancy.

Treatment Method:

ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) – A specialized technique where a single sperm is injected directly into the egg to enhance fertilization success.
NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) – Chromosomal screening to detect abnormalities in embryos.

Patient's Experience with Beyond IVF:

"I feel lucky to have known about Beyond IVF early on, which allowed me to address infertility sooner."
"Thank you, Dr. Ton, for taking care of our family and helping us welcome our little one into our lives."

Body Mass Index calculator

Being overweight or underweight can reduce fertility, so it is important to keep your body weight within the normal healthy range.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is an indication of your body weight and can be calculated by dividing weight by height. You should aim for a BMI of between 20 and 25, as this will optimise your chances of conception.

Woman’s BMI below 19

Even in these modern times, nature knows best. If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

Being underweight

If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

BMI’s greater than 30

This can reduce fertility by 50%. Pregnancy for women with a 30+ BMI is often associated with problems such as maternal diabetes, high blood pressure, big babies and increased risk of caesarean section.
