After two embryo transfers, success came in the second round, resulting in a twin pregnancy through ICSI, thanks to the expertise of Dr. Ton at Beyond IVF

This patient, aged 37, had never previously sought fertility treatment, but after over a year of trying to conceive naturally, she realized she might be struggling with infertility. She began researching fertility treatments online and found Beyond IVF. After reviewing the available options, she decided that the ICSI method, which offers the highest success rate, was the best choice for her.

Upon consulting with Dr. Ton, she decided to proceed with ICSI, as her age raised concerns about the risk of genetic abnormalities, such as Down syndrome, in her future children. Additionally, she opted for NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) to screen for chromosomal abnormalities in the embryos before transferring them into her uterus.

After her next menstrual cycle, she began the egg stimulation process, which responded well. Dr. Ton was able to collect 24 eggs, with 17 reaching the M II stage (mature and ready for fertilization). However, only 5 embryos reached the blastocyst stage (day 5) and were sent for chromosomal screening. The results showed that 3 embryos were viable, and the patient was hopeful about the possibility of conceiving.

However, after the first embryo transfer, the embryo failed to implant due to stress and hormonal imbalance, which prevented the embryo from growing. Thankfully, there were still 2 viable embryos left for the next round. In the second transfer, Dr. Ton customized the treatment plan, which included transferring both embryos together (a medical decision).

The second transfer was more relaxed, and the patient followed Dr. Ton's advice carefully. Every 3 days, she had blood tests to monitor her hormone levels, which were adjusted as needed. Eighteen days later, her hCG (pregnancy hormone) levels were over 6000 mIU/ml, indicating a successful pregnancy, likely with both embryos implanting.

Dr. Ton and the team at Beyond IVF provided excellent care and support throughout the process. The patient is now pregnant with twins, and she is grateful for Dr. Ton's expertise and the ongoing support from the staff at Beyond IVF.

Treatment method: ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) Additional techniques: NGS (Next Generation Sequencing for chromosomal screening)

Patient's feedback: "I want to thank Dr. Ton so much for making my dream come true. The staff at Beyond IVF were fantastic, always checking in and providing great care. I’m really impressed with the whole process."

Body Mass Index calculator

Being overweight or underweight can reduce fertility, so it is important to keep your body weight within the normal healthy range.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is an indication of your body weight and can be calculated by dividing weight by height. You should aim for a BMI of between 20 and 25, as this will optimise your chances of conception.

Woman’s BMI below 19

Even in these modern times, nature knows best. If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

BMI’s greater than 30

This can reduce fertility by 50%. Pregnancy for women with a 30+ BMI is often associated with problems such as maternal diabetes, high blood pressure, big babies and increased risk of caesarean section.
