How many days after embryo transfer can you test for HCG (beta-HCG)?

The earliest is 10-14 days. As a general standard, it is recommended to test on day 14. However, if some mothers are anxious and want to know sooner, they can test on day 10. But if the result shows no pregnancy, don’t panic. Just wait until day 14 and test again to confirm.

HCG (beta-HCG)

The hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is produced by the cells of the placenta. The hormone level can be detected starting 11 days after fertilization and can be detected in urine 12-14 days after fertilization. The hormone level doubles every 3 days. The levels peak between 8-11 weeks of pregnancy, after which they decrease and stabilize throughout the rest of the pregnancy.

The HCG (beta-HCG) test has 2 methods:

  1. Home Pregnancy Test with Test Kit: The result of the pregnancy test will show a colored line. If there are 2 lines (one on the C line and the T line), it means a positive result, indicating a possibility of pregnancy. If there is only one line (on the C line), it means a negative result, indicating no pregnancy. However, if no lines appear at all, it means the test kit is faulty, expired, or there was an error in the urine collection process, and the test should be repeated.

However, this method is not 100% accurate and may produce false negative or false positive results. It is recommended to consult a doctor for a more accurate pregnancy test.

  1. Pregnancy Test by Doctor: This involves a blood test to check for pregnancy, using the hCG hormone to confirm the results by a medical laboratory technician. This method tests for the Beta-hCG hormone, and results can be obtained approximately 1-2 hours after fertilization. The results will accurately confirm pregnancy. This method is also ideal for those who need a more certain result quickly, such as individuals with infertility issues or a history of miscarriage, and those who need information to plan for the administration of supplements to prevent miscarriage, etc.

Standard HCG hormone levels.

However, the blood test does not confirm pregnancy 100%. The doctor will diagnose by also using an ultrasound to check for the pregnancy sac and the detection of the baby's heartbeat. Body Mass Index calculator

Being overweight or underweight can reduce fertility, so it is important to keep your body weight within the normal healthy range.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is an indication of your body weight and can be calculated by dividing weight by height. You should aim for a BMI of between 20 and 25, as this will optimise your chances of conception.

Woman’s BMI below 19

Even in these modern times, nature knows best. If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

Being underweight

If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

BMI’s greater than 30

This can reduce fertility by 50%. Pregnancy for women with a 30+ BMI is often associated with problems such as maternal diabetes, high blood pressure, big babies and increased risk of caesarean section.
