Tried IUI 7 times elsewhere without success, but finally achieved pregnancy with ICSI at Beyond IVF with Dr. Ton.

This patient had previously undergone fertility treatment using IUI at another clinic, attempting it 7 times without success. Before the 5th IUI attempt, an ultrasound revealed a cyst, which was surgically removed before proceeding. However, despite multiple attempts, pregnancy was not achieved. During the 6th attempt, a gestational sac was detected, but no heartbeat was found, and the pregnancy did not progress. After the 7th failed IUI, the patient decided to explore other fertility treatment options.

Seeking recommendations from friends, many suggested consulting Dr. Ton Poonnsak at Beyond IVF. After researching successful case reviews, the patient decided to proceed with treatment at Beyond IVF. Upon consultation and assessment of past treatments, Dr. Ton advised comprehensive hormonal and physical examinations to determine the underlying cause of infertility.

Results showed extremely low hormone levels, indicating that ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) was the best option before hormone levels declined further. At Beyond IVF, IUI is not typically recommended beyond three attempts, as it may lead to thinning of the uterine lining, making embryo implantation more difficult.

Given the past IUI history, where a gestational sac was once detected but did not develop further, Dr. Ton suspected chromosomal abnormalities in the embryos. Therefore, he recommended ICSI combined with NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) to screen for chromosomal abnormalities before embryo transfer.

After the embryo transfer, blood tests were conducted every three days to monitor hormone levels and adjust medication as needed to optimize pregnancy success.

At 21 days post-transfer, the latest ultrasound confirmed two gestational sacs. Dr. Ton officially confirmed, "You're expecting twins!"

Patient's Treatment: ICSI (In Vitro Fertilization)

Special Techniques Used:

  • ICSI (A specialized technique where a single sperm is injected directly into an egg to increase the success rate)

  • NGS (Chromosomal screening to detect abnormalities in embryos)

Patient's Thoughts on Beyond IVF:

  • Almost lost hope of having a baby if it weren’t for Dr. Ton’s guidance.

  • So many successful cases, which gave us confidence that Dr. Ton could help our family too.

  • Beyond IVF provides excellent care, and the staff is lovely!

Body Mass Index calculator

Being overweight or underweight can reduce fertility, so it is important to keep your body weight within the normal healthy range.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is an indication of your body weight and can be calculated by dividing weight by height. You should aim for a BMI of between 20 and 25, as this will optimise your chances of conception.

Woman’s BMI below 19

Even in these modern times, nature knows best. If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

Being underweight

If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

BMI’s greater than 30

This can reduce fertility by 50%. Pregnancy for women with a 30+ BMI is often associated with problems such as maternal diabetes, high blood pressure, big babies and increased risk of caesarean section.
