Successfully conceived again after 8 years of permanent sterilization through ICSI treatment with Dr. Ton at Beyond IVF

Patient's Case History:

This patient had undergone permanent sterilization 8 years ago after delivering her second child in her early 30s. As time passed, she desired to have another child to complete her family. However, she was unsure whether to undergo sterilization reversal and attempt natural conception again. She initially believed that reversing the procedure was the only way to conceive, but the high treatment costs and the uncertainty of success made her hesitant.

After coming across successful cases of pregnancy after permanent sterilization at Beyond IVF, she decided to consult with Dr. Ton for treatment options. Dr. Ton recommended the ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) procedure over sterilization reversal, as reconnecting the fallopian tubes after such a long period would be highly challenging. Scar tissue from the previous surgery could have led to adhesions, making natural conception even more difficult. Moreover, considering the couple’s age, Dr. Ton advised against natural conception due to the increased risk of chromosomal abnormalities, such as Down syndrome, intellectual disabilities, and cleft lip/palate. The ICSI procedure combined with NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) was the best option to ensure a healthy pregnancy.

After receiving Dr. Ton’s consultation, the patient immediately proceeded with ICSI treatment at the onset of her menstrual cycle. Fortunately, both ovaries responded well to the stimulation medication, allowing 18 eggs to be retrieved. Scientists successfully cultured 10 blastocyst-stage embryos (day 5 embryos). Upon NGS chromosomal screening, multiple high-quality embryos were available. Dr. Ton selected the best-grade embryo for transfer, applying Embryo Glue to enhance implantation and reduce the risk of embryo loss. As a result, the patient successfully conceived again at 40 years old.

Patient's Treatment:

ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) – A specialized technique that injects sperm directly into the egg to increase fertilization success.
NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) – A screening method to detect chromosomal abnormalities in embryos before transfer.

Patient’s Thoughts on Beyond IVF:

"Thank you, Dr. Ton, for helping our family welcome another child. Even after undergoing sterilization, I still had the chance to conceive again—I’m so happy!"
"The Beyond IVF team was incredibly kind and supportive. They provided great advice and even surprised us with a special gift to celebrate our successful pregnancy!"

Body Mass Index calculator

Being overweight or underweight can reduce fertility, so it is important to keep your body weight within the normal healthy range.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is an indication of your body weight and can be calculated by dividing weight by height. You should aim for a BMI of between 20 and 25, as this will optimise your chances of conception.

Woman’s BMI below 19

Even in these modern times, nature knows best. If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

Being underweight

If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

BMI’s greater than 30

This can reduce fertility by 50%. Pregnancy for women with a 30+ BMI is often associated with problems such as maternal diabetes, high blood pressure, big babies and increased risk of caesarean section.
