Ms. Runglawan, a 48 year old mother, breaks the record as the oldest mother to successfully conceive through ICSI at Beyond IVF.
A family breaks the record for infertility treatment at Beyond IVF at the age of 48, undergoing ICSI with Dr. Ton Poonsak. In this case, the mother had never used birth control and relied on ovulation tracking for over 10 years without success. She then decided to seek medical assistance, and today, she has successfully conceived.
Before coming to Beyond IVF, had you undergone ICSI at another clinic or hospital?
Mother: I had undergone ICSI at one place before, back when I was 45 years old. At that time, I didn’t have much information. I decided to go there because the cost was affordable. I assumed that the treatment would be the same everywhere. However, when I actually went through the process, it was unsuccessful, and their method was quite complicated. I had to administer the injections myself and monitor the results on my own. When the time came, I went in for the embryo transfer. After that, there was no follow-up until the scheduled blood test, which was when I found out that the procedure had failed.

Why did you decide to seek treatment at Beyond IVF?
Mother: I researched and shortlisted five clinics, but when I called three of them, most had an age limit of 45 years. They said I could come in for a consultation, but just hearing that made me feel hopeless.
However, when I contacted Beyond IVF, I immediately felt good about it. From the first interaction, the staff made me feel welcomed. They would call and check on me, asking, "Are you able to come? Do you need directions?" Can I mention a name? Ms. Aom would always call me, saying, "Are you on your way? The doctor is waiting for you."
That made me so happy—it felt like they genuinely wanted me to come. When I first met the doctor, I was truly impressed because the consultation was completely free. The doctor explained everything in detail, guiding me on how to prepare for the treatment.
When my next period started, Ms. Aom followed up and scheduled me for an appointment. Honestly, at first, I felt a bit embarrassed because of my age. But neither Ms. Aom nor the doctor ever mentioned it. Instead, they were incredibly encouraging, which gave me the confidence to try ICSI again.
How far along is your pregnancy now? How do you feel?
Mother: I’m now 13 weeks pregnant, having passed the first trimester. I feel incredibly happy! Given my age, my hormone levels were quite low. I have to admit that around 11 days after the procedure, I started to lose hope. Because of my age and the long distance I had to travel, I even told Ms. Aom, "I don’t want to continue anymore."
When the doctor scheduled me for an injection, I didn’t go. But I have to thank the team at Beyond IVF for their care and support, which made me want to keep trying.
After 14 days post-embryo transfer, the clinic scheduled me for a blood test. The results showed that I was successfully pregnant—I was overjoyed
Do you have any messages for the doctor and the team at Beyond IVF?
Mother: The doctor and the team at Beyond IVF were incredibly supportive—they truly gave me the best encouragement, second only to my family. I feel like I made the right choice in selecting where to undergo fertility treatment. It only took two rounds at Beyond IVF for me to conceive.
As I mentioned, I had already lost hope, but when I came in for my first ultrasound and heard my baby’s heartbeat, I was beyond excited. My husband even said that we should continue all our prenatal care and deliver with Dr. Ton, no matter how far we have to travel—we’re more than willing to make the journey
Could you share a message for parents who are hoping to have a child?
Mother: For many women, whether in their teenage years or their 30s, having a child might not be part of their plans yet. Some may be enjoying life, while others are focused on their careers. However, with today’s advancements in technology, I want to encourage all women—whether they’re immersed in work or simply enjoying life—to consider egg freezing.
By freezing your eggs while you’re still young, when the time comes and you’re ready to have a child, you’ll have healthy, high-quality eggs, increasing your chances of success by up to 70%. I truly want more women to be aware of this because I don’t want anyone to go through what I did. I didn’t seriously think about having children until my early 40s, and by then, my chances had significantly decreased as my egg count had already declined.
