Journey to Parenthood: Overcoming Infertility with ICSI to Welcome Twin Miracles

Kat and Peepo had been trying to conceive for years without success. After medical examinations, Kat was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), which affected her ovulation and hormone balance. Under the expert care of Dr. Ton Poonsak at Beyond IVF, a personalized treatment plan was designed to optimize her chances of conception. Their journey was not only successful but brought them double the joy—welcoming twins, Cooper and Copper, into their family.

"The day we found out we were pregnant was beyond exciting! We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Ton for making our dream come true."

Why We Chose Beyond IVF & Dr. Ton

Peepo: "Beyond IVF stood out for its credibility and Dr. Ton’s hands-on approach. He answered all our questions, provided thorough explanations, and even gave us his direct contact for any concerns. This wasn’t just a medical service—it was genuine care. ICSI was the method we opted for, and we couldn't be happier with the results."

The ICSI Journey Step by Step

Day 1: The Beginning

The journey started with an ultrasound to assess the uterus, ensuring no fibroids or cysts would interfere with the pregnancy. Once everything looked good, the first round of ovarian stimulation injections began.

Kat: "I had to inject myself at the same time every day. Since I wasn’t comfortable doing it alone, I visited the clinic daily, where the nurses kindly assisted me at no extra charge!"

Day 7: Monitoring Progress

A follow-up ultrasound revealed a good number of follicles. However, due to Kat’s PCOS, some follicles were expected to be immature or of lower quality.

Day 10: Final Ultrasound Before Egg Retrieval

The eggs were closely monitored, and when they were mature enough, the final trigger shot was administered to prepare for retrieval.

Day 12: Egg Retrieval Day

A crucial day for both parents!
Kat had to fast for 6 hours, avoid makeup and nail polish.
Peepo had to abstain from ejaculation for 5-7 days.

Kat: "I was nervous about the procedure since it required sedation, but the anesthesiologist was so kind and reassuring. Before I knew it, the procedure was over!"

The retrieved eggs were then fertilized using ICSI, a cutting-edge technique offered to all patients at Beyond IVF at no extra cost.

Day 17: Blastocyst Stage

After five days, only strong embryos remained. Since Kat had a family history of miscarriages, she and Peepo decided to perform chromosomal screening (PGT-A) to select the healthiest embryos. This meant freezing all embryos and waiting for the next cycle.

Day 24: Embryo Selection & Transfer Plan

After receiving the genetic test results, Kat and Peepo decided to transfer two embryos, hoping to increase their chances of success. Dr. Ton carefully explained the risks and considerations of a twin pregnancy before proceeding.

The Moment of Truth

After 14 days, Kat’s HCG levels were sky-high—she was pregnant! A few days later, the ultrasound confirmed the best surprise… twins!

Kat: "We were overjoyed! After waiting so long, we were blessed with two little miracles at once."

Continuing the Journey: Prenatal Care at Beyond IVF

Given the higher risks associated with twin pregnancies, Kat decided to continue prenatal care with Dr. Ton. She later found out that many patients at Beyond IVF chose to stay under his care for the same reason—trust and expertise.

"I’m so grateful for Beyond IVF. I’ve recommended it to all my friends, and many of them are now expecting too! If you’re still unsure, just book a free consultation with Dr. Ton. It’s the best decision we ever made."

Body Mass Index calculator

Being overweight or underweight can reduce fertility, so it is important to keep your body weight within the normal healthy range.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is an indication of your body weight and can be calculated by dividing weight by height. You should aim for a BMI of between 20 and 25, as this will optimise your chances of conception.

Woman’s BMI below 19

Even in these modern times, nature knows best. If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

Being underweight

If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

BMI’s greater than 30

This can reduce fertility by 50%. Pregnancy for women with a 30+ BMI is often associated with problems such as maternal diabetes, high blood pressure, big babies and increased risk of caesarean section.
