At an older age with declining ovarian function and nearly unable to conceive, she is now successfully pregnant through the ICSI method with Dr. Ton at Beyond IVF.

A 46-year-old mother faced the obstacle of diminished ovarian function, making it nearly impossible for her to conceive. Both she and her partner were almost losing hope, but their strong desire to have a little baby led them to consult Dr. Ton to explore options. Dr. Ton recommended the ICSI method to increase their chances of pregnancy, and now she is successfully pregnant.

This couple, who faced significant infertility challenges and were nearly unable to conceive, found renewed hope after seeing successful case reviews of Dr. Ton from Beyond IVF. They made an appointment to consult with him and seek advice. Initially, Dr. Ton advised both of them to undergo detailed health examinations to identify the underlying causes before planning appropriate treatment. It was determined that the woman had diminished ovarian function, and due to her age, the chances of natural conception were very low. Dr. Ton specifically recommended using the ICSI method along with embryo chromosomal screening to enhance the chances of successful pregnancy.

When her next menstrual cycle arrived, the patient began egg stimulation immediately, but the response was not very favorable. Dr. Ton suggested freezing the eggs for later use and taking time to prepare her body for a second round of stimulation. After two rounds, they obtained an adequate number of eggs for ICSI. The chromosomal testing results showed two very high-quality embryos. Dr. Ton selected the best embryo to transfer back into the patient's uterus, and now she is successfully pregnant.

The patient underwent treatment using the ICSI method (in vitro fertilization).

Additional special techniques:

  • ICSI (a technique using a special microscope to inject sperm directly into the egg to increase success rates)

  • NGS (to check for chromosomal abnormalities in the embryo).

Body Mass Index calculator

Being overweight or underweight can reduce fertility, so it is important to keep your body weight within the normal healthy range.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is an indication of your body weight and can be calculated by dividing weight by height. You should aim for a BMI of between 20 and 25, as this will optimise your chances of conception.

Woman’s BMI below 19

Even in these modern times, nature knows best. If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

Being underweight

If a woman's BMI falls below 19, the body senses famine and ovulation is switched off to prevent the risk of having a baby with malnutrition. Excessive exercise can reduce body fat and increase muscle mass to a point where periods cease for the same reason. Risk of miscarriage is also increased in women with a low BMI.

BMI’s greater than 30

This can reduce fertility by 50%. Pregnancy for women with a 30+ BMI is often associated with problems such as maternal diabetes, high blood pressure, big babies and increased risk of caesarean section.
